Crete was founded in 1836 and is one of the oldest Villages in the south suburbs of Chicago. Residents and visitors alike enjoy the downtown area which sits on the historical Dixie Highway. Crete is one of very few south suburbs to have a pedestrian driven downtown area where visitors can enjoy the European Market and antique car nights in the summer, as well as a Country Christmas weekend in the winter.
